A Journey of Strength & Commitment

On February 1st, 2020, Rosalie Bay Eco Resort & Spa proudly reopened its doors, marking the 5th anniversary of its remarkable resurgence. After the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017, which destroyed 90% of the resort’s buildings, the road to recovery was uncertain. Yet, Rosalie Bay, a beacon of hope for four surrounding communities, remained steadfast in its mission. More than just a luxury eco-resort, Rosalie Bay is a pillar of community support, employment, and environmental conservation.

A Commitment to Community & Conservation

Following the hurricane’s destruction, Rosalie Bay faced a difficult decision—whether to close permanently or rise again. Recognizing its vital role in the local economy, the resort chose to rebuild, not only restoring its breathtaking accommodations but also its commitment to the people. Upon reopening, 80% of the pre-Maria staff were rehired, ensuring that the local workforce continued to thrive. Additionally, Rosalie Bay remained a key buyer of local produce, seafood, and artisan goods, directly supporting farmers, fishermen, and craftspeople.

Overcoming the Challenges of a Global Pandemic

No sooner had the resort reopened than it was met with another unforeseen challenge—the COVID-19 pandemic. For three grueling years, Rosalie Bay navigated the hardships of global travel restrictions, choosing to keep its doors open rather than laying off staff. This unwavering dedication ensured that employees and their families could continue to rely on the resort for their livelihood, reaffirming Rosalie Bay’s place as a true pillar of economic resilience in Dominica.
